Welcome to Room 9's class blog. We are a class of 31 year 5 and 6 happy pupils. Our school is a few minutes walk away from a surf beach and below the magnificent Mount Taranaki. Check out our blog to see what we've been up to.
For our buddy session with Room 4 this week, we created flowers and snowflakes from plastic bottles. The snowflakes will be used at our school disco next term.
Plastic Bottle Flowers:
1. Using scissors, carefully cut around the bottle (10-15cm from the lid).
2. Using the scissors, carefully cut into the middle (lid part) 8 times.
3. Bend the plastic petals so that they are at a right angle to the lid.
4. Round off the ends of all the petals using scissors.
5. Using a vivid, put your initials on the inside of the lid or on one of the petals.
6. Paint one side of the petals.
7. Leave to dry.
Plastic Snowflake:
1. Using scissors, carefully cut around the bottle (5cm from the bottom).
2. Use a hole puncher to make a in the plastic.
3. Put a piece of string (about 15cm long) through the hole and tie a knot in it.
4. Paint or draw (with a vivid) a snowflake design on the outside of the bottle.
5. Leave to dry.
Room 9 have started the Oakura Library Programme. We record each book that we've read on our green sheet and score it out of 10. This is our record of all the books we've finished and we can use this to suggest good books to our friends. To receive a bronze certificate, we need to read 15 books. To receive a silver certificate, we need to read 30 books. To receive a gold certificate, we need to read 45 books. Congratulations to those pupils who have already received some certificates. Great photographs Katelyn!
Belle created a bird feeder with recycled materials as part of her homework last week. Lots of you wanted the instructions so you could make one too. Take a photograph of your bird feeder in your garden and it can go on the blog too. Thank you for a great idea Belle!
We used the khanacademy website in maths today to help us solve a maths word problem. You can use it at home to revisit strategies or learn new skills in maths and other subjects.
Kevin Archer from the New Plymouth Council came to Room 9 on Wednesday to talk to us about waste management. We made some notes about the key ideas that were discussed.
This term, Room 9 have been working hard with Mrs Aiello on the production songs and Rayleen on the production dances. The boys have learnt a dance to 'A Kind of Magic' by Queen and the girls have learnt a dance to 'Abracadabra' by Steve Miller Band.
