Tuesday 26 August 2014

On Tuesday the Oakura/Coastal Hockey teams had their prize giving and a great hockey game of parents vs kids (The kids won1-0)! The prize giving didn’t include getting the cup for the best in the grade. My team get it on Saturday - Robbie, Edward, Seton, Taylor, Angela, Sasha, Robert and me, Oliver! For the prize giving everyone gets a certificate and there's some trophies for the most valuable player and the most improved. I was lucky enough to get the most improved for the Oakura Stars 2014!

Finn's Adventure!

I am about to tell you how I broke my leg....
"One beautiful day at the ski-field" I said. My Dad agreed and that was the start of a terrible accident .When we were going up the Movenpick (a lift) I decided we should go down the lower free way (a track at Turoa). I was nearly at the bottom of the lower freeway when I decided to go up a tall hill. At the top it was a wonderful view. I could see the Poma and the massive queue at the bottom of the ski field. Then I saw my Mum zipping down the hill. That was when I jumped off the ledge and sped down the side of the hill. A woman skied slowly in to my path and I crashed suddenly into her. It was a blur. I fell down. She fell heavily onto my leg and I hurriedly asked her to get off. She got off alright but very slowly. By the time she had got off my Mum had called ski patrol. They also took awhile but they made up for it by getting me safely and carefully down the hill. I was lucky the ski patroller wasn't wearing his two tipped skis. If he was, by the time I had arrived at the first aid centre I would be covered in snow. When I got there I had some laughing gas which makes me feel no pain. The nurses took my X-ray while I had some more laughing gas. After a while the nurses put my cast on. And that's how I got my broken leg.

- no detail
- bright colours
- unrealistic body features such as people inside peopl
- no shading
- lines around body to show movement

- happy
- confusing
- random
- energetic
- intriguing (curious/interesting)
- energetic
- imaginative
- discusting
We had a go at drawing in the style of Keith Haring.

Mathematics - Angles on BrainPop

We have been learning to measure and name different angles. Today we watched a BrainPop video about angles. We have developed a special way to remember what an acute and obtuse angle is. Ask a room 9 pupil for details. Check out the BrainPop clip using the link below.

Cross Country 2014

Photographer: Arizona

On Tuesday the middle school and the seniors had their cross country race at Corbett Park. Everybody did one lap except for the 11 year olds and up. Lots of people found the course tiring. The school and the parents were cheering for people as they came across the finish line. Everybody did well in the cross country. Written by Rosie.

Interschool Rugby.

Oakura School year 7 & 8
Interschool Rugby
On Friday afternoon the year 7 and 8 (and 6) Interschool Rugby team played against St Josephs’ Stratford at Oakura School.

It was a very hard but evenly matched game. They were very good in the scrums and rucks though. At the end we all went into the gallery and had some food.

Overall the score was 44-14 to them.

Tayla and Maleeka

For the past year I have been leasing a bay mare called Maleeka. Maleeka is 13hh and is a talented jumper. We belong to Okato pony club and we are extra lucky because out at Okato we have a past Olympic Rider whose name is Matthew Grayling. I'm learning so much from him and our other instructors. The pony club season starts in September and I'm really excited. Written by Tayla.

Oakura/Coastal Stars Hockey News

On Saturday the 16th of August the Oakura hockey team won their semi final game against Fitzroy Quick Sticks. Our great goalie Seton saved every goal with help from our backs Sasha, Robert and Oliver.  At full time the score was nil all so we went into 5 minutes extra time.  Within the first minute we scored!  Game over.  Oakura/Coastal Stars 1.  Fitzroy 0. On to the finals we go. Written by Oliver.
...
On Saturday Seton, Ed, Oliver and I (Robbie) are going to play in the finals against Welbourn at the hockey pitch in town.
On Saturday morning last week we played at the pitch in town against the Fitzroy Quick Sticks. You have probably heard how close it was. In the game Oliver suddenly passed to Robbie and he scored in the last five minutes of extra time the goal. I was in goal in this game, and I'll also be in goal on Saturday in the finals. Buddy Fun with Room 4!

Last week for homework room 9 we asked to think of something, for example origami or a board game, to do with their room 4 buddies and we had to write instructions for it. We did the activities outside. Everybody did really cool things. Charlotte made obelk (which is like goo), Tayla made a board game and Belle and I made a paper box with a paper caterpillar inside. Our buddies looked like they were having so much fun.

Pajama Day for Mellowpuff Charitable Trust

Oakura School had Pajama day today! It was to raise money for a charity called Mellowpuff. We had to bring a dollar coin or more to school and if you did, you were in the draw to win a packet of MallowPuffs! It was so fun because 1. I didn’t have to get into my clothes this morning and 2. I was really nice and cosy in my PJ’s outside. I was wearing a dressing gown but most people were wearing onesies because onesies are so popular these days. Alex won the Mallow Puffs in our class. PJ day was so awesome, I can’t wait until next year!

Snowflake Maths Fun

On Thursday 14th August room nine made paper snowflakes for the winter themed school disco. Miss Bain printed out instructions for us and we copied off those. There were two different types of snowflakes; one using a square piece of paper and one with circle paper. We used our protractors to give the circles a radius of 10cm. Everybody’s snowflake was different with different shapes. When we finished making our snowflake we put sparkles and glitter on them. In the end everybody's snowflake looked really cool and they will make the disco look great!

Room 9 made some really cool snowflakes for our school disco. One type was really hard to fold but the other one was great fun to make.
