Tough Kids Photographs 2

On Friday 28 November Room 9 went on a bus trip to Yarrow Stadium for an event called Tough Kids Tag Oil competition. Lots of other schools attended as well. Despite the horrible weather the course was fantastic. We climbed over hay bales, through tunnels and down a bubbly water slide not to mention all the other obstacles! After the individual race we had to do the team challenge to carry a hoop back through the course again. It was so amazing, awesome, incredible and fantastic!!

Long Jump - 27.11.14

On Thursday 27 November room 9 did long jump training.

First room 9 got 2 skipping ropes and placed them on the ground.
Then we jumped over the rope taking off with one foot and landing on 2 two feet.
Then we placed hurdles in the middle and kept jumping.

Personally I really liked it when we put hurdles in the middle of the
ropes.

A Taste of Home - 26.11.14

A Taste Of Home
On Wednesday 26 November Oakura School had the taste of home activities. There were lots to choose from. There was a session 1 and a session 2 (session 2 had the most activities). I chose America for session 1 and England for session 2. It went from the start of the day to morning tea. America was fun. One of the things we had to do was line dancing. This was fun, hard and very funny. The two leaders were the judges. If you won you got some American candy. They talked a lot about holidays and asked a lot of hard questions. At the England there were only about 4 or 5 people but it was fun we played a game called the London bridge is falling down it was a fun game. We were asked some easy questions,  watched a slideshow and a video.

The Girl Who Loved To Dance by Miya

The girl who loved to dance

There once lived a young girl who loved to dance.
She danced all day and she danced all night.
She danced everywhere she went. She jumped
and she leaped she spun and she sway,
so delicately she danced with no sound at her feet.

Winter poem by Olivia

WINTER

Whisper it and your heart freezes

I sit inside,alone,looking outside,thinking

Not breathing, but inhaling the freezing oxygen

Talking about the cold makes me tense

Every day is getting colder and colder

Right now, it's here, WINTER

AWE Swim safety - 20.11.14

AWE Swim Safety
Over the past few days Room 9 have been going to the aquatic centre doing the AWE swim safety program. We have been learning how to save people without endangering ourselves, learning how to pull someone onto a lifeboat, how to jump safely into the water (safety jump) and doing normal swimming strokes. The lessons have been very fun and could be useful in the future.

Mapping My Place maps and presentations 19.11.14

As Oakura School are thinking of becoming an enviro school, our class have mapped and labeled our school with a buddy. The labels had personal feelings like quiet and joyful on them. We also had to label the can do’s and cant do’s of the school, e.g Library: Can discuss and read books quietly. Can’t shout and run around. Some groups used satellite images and some just knew the school well. But one thing we all had in common was that we all had fun.

AWE Swim Safety 19.11.14

The year sixes have been going to the aquatic  centre to do a swimming program called AWE. We learn floating and sculling, saving people with a rope and other equipment and we do backstroke and freestyle as well. It’s really fun and we have been going all week apart from Monday. The swimming lesson is fun and will be useful if we are in trouble in the sea.

SPRING by Charlie Bridges

SPRING
Written by Charlie Bridges

Super fun times for little lambs.

Plants blooming all there flowers.

Running like the wind at the beach.

In the tents like little moals.

No snow on the mountain.

Going to the beach.
My Lamb written by Abi.

Adorable! Athena is just about the cutest lamb you've ever met!

Time-consuming. Athena is really cute, but her HUMONGOUS appetite is hard to appease!

Hot-headed. If Athena is hungry and you don't feed her ASAP she'll get infuriated and start bleating.

Entertaining. When you run down a hill with Athena in tow, she'll leap, bleat, and toss her head.

Not easily fooled! Athena really lives up to her name by following you no matter where you go.

A complete lamb. Athena isn't the only one! She lives a happy life with her BLFF, (Best Lamb Friends Forever) Aslan.

Below: Athena and Aslan. Athena in front, Aslan in the back. Pictures to come.

Fun Run!

On friday the 14th of November, the whole of Oakura School participated in the awesome fun run. There were dressup themes for the day so everyone came in costumes which made it very interesting.  There were LOTS of games, like: passing and catching water balloons, obstacle courses, waterslide, and other very exciting activities to experience. It was such a hot day, everybody especially enjoyed going on the waterslide. We were given a refreshing ice-block at the end, which was very nice. Everyone had a great day, and can’t wait until next year!
